Swim Lessons - Xavier

We signed the kids up for a week of private swim instruction this year.  They each get thirty minutes of teaching time a day for the week.  It's been interesting to watch them in the water.  I really appreciate their instructor, Miss Skylar, and she's worked well with both of the children.

Xavier is very brave.  He doesn't like to be cold but has turned out to be quite a fish.  He got to use his goggles last night, and although his nose is too small for them to seal well and not let water into his eyes, they make him braver still and he stuck his WHOLE face down in the water several times while searching for treasure!

He went down the slide solo on the first night - all his idea - bumped his head hard and got spun around and came out face first.  He put on a brave show but was a little spooked.  We talked with both kids about leaning back and putting their arms out on the slide to hold their center of gravity and slow themselves down.

Updated 7.19.14:
We finished up swimming lessons this week.  Tuesday was brutally COLD and miserable.  Xavier only made it for 10 of his 30 minute lesson before we had to pull him out.  We made up the time with an extra long lesson on Thursday.
^ Tuesday's swim face.  He's about to burst into tears.  Xavier hates being cold. ^

Thursday's weather was much kinder to us AND the heat in the pool was working (did I mention it was broken Tuesday?).
Overall, I'm very pleased with Xavier's progress for 5 thirty minutes lessons.  He understands that his body is buoyant, he has learned how to use his legs to propel himself in water, and he got much braver about getting his whole body wet.  We are planning a family swim day soon!
