New School Year!

When you homeschool, I've realized that one school year can kind of flow into another.  We did take a full couple of weeks off after Natalee finished her math curriculum this mid June (we were a bit behind because of our "having a baby sister break" that we took!).

I didn't want to lose our momentum with reading so we've kept it at a maintenance level during our two week break (does that classify as a break!?) until today when we picked it back up full force.  I'm so excited with how Natalee's blending skills are coming along!

Natalee responds best to be told why something is important.  It's important to practicing blending and fluency because the quicker you can slide words together the easier reading will be for you.  This makes sense to her and makes her want to learn and work hard.

The "homeschool new school year" starts on July 1 with new recording minutes so we officially declare that our 2014-2015 Joyful Jamboree school year has begun.  That said, we won't start any other subjects (math, science, history, etc.) outside of reading and Bible lessons until August.  We do, of course, read all summer and just finished The Mouse and the Motorcycle last night as a family.  I'm nerdily excited about new learning and our new school year!
