Post Procedure Update

The first three posts regarding baby Mia's lip/tongue ties:

We are 2 days post laser correction for Ameliya's lip and tongue ties and she's doing wonderfully.  Her nursing sessions are about 20 mins every 3-4 hours and there is tons of milk to be found.  Saturday morning, I actually woke up at 5 a.m. to feed her and was completely engorged.  So strange, obviously not your ideal nursing situation, but my point being that my body recognized and responded to the difference in her ability to nurse THAT quickly.  I went from 3-4 herbal supplements and numerous cups of lactation tea, plus oatmeal and lactation cookies just to keep a minimal supply to no herbals or tea or cookies and tons of supply.
Our bodies were made to do this, truly!

Mia remains a bit crabby.  The mouth exercises we are instructed to do to keep the ties from regrowing make her angry.  I don't know that they hurt (though I think they are tender) as much as it makes her quite furious to have us pry her tiny mouth open and follow the regime.  Two weeks of this, though, and it will all be a memory.
We are following Dr. Kotlow's regime for care of the ties.  He is friends with Dr. Wade and does laser tie corrections in New York.

We are actually dealing with a bit of reflux because Ameliya is nursing so quickly and getting so much that I think she's overdoing it a bit.  We're working on it.  Her mother understands overeating {smile}.  I also think that as her latch improves, so will some of the reflux.  One wouldn't expect a perfect latch with a tender mouth.  A few more days of healing and we will buckle down and work on it more.

Overall, I'm feeling quite blessed and am still happy we made the decision to have the ties revised.  Her mouth was so tied down that she would have likely had to have had them done at some point anyways so at least having them done now will not be a lasting memory for her.
