Day 3 of vacation brought a whole day to spend with our ND family. We went to Art in the Park in Mandan and saw lots of cool booths and crafts. Aunt Val treated the kids to a ride on the train cars.
As per typical ND weather the day started quite chilly, then we all sweated when the sun came up, and then it cooled down and stormed.
After Art in the Park I took all my kiddos back to the camper for a nap...if only that plan had worked. No one napped. Ameliya had defaulted to falling asleep the minute we got in the van which means naps for the remainder of the trip were tanked.
After our non nap times, we headed out to a surprise wedding party for Uncle Rich and Aunt Val. They were married quietly last fall and Val's sister decided it was time for a celebration - how nice that it coincided with our visit!
They throw quite a party in ND - there were bounce houses for the kids and the food was delicious. Ameliya had several full fledged ugly meltdowns as a result of her non napping but then pushed through (as opposed to falling asleep on someone's lap or in the stroller) and continued to bounce. The big kids had a blast and Zayden was quite good for a little lad.
We left the party when the storm started coming and I had to run into Wal Mart with Ameilya - every pair of shoes I'd packed her (3!) were suddenly too small, invoking tears every time we tried to put them on. We got the ugliest funnest pair of Minnie Mouse tennis shoes and came on our way, but not before the storm blew in...what rain! We pulled into the farm as it stopped and the afterglow was beautiful.
True to form, Ameliya had fallen asleep in the 20 minutes from Wal Mart to the farm and was just rested enough to go a little longer...
The wind + the full day meant all the kids slept like rocks again all night!
