Back to School!

We officially kicked off our homeschool year yesterday morning!  My goal was to be going by 9 and we were going by 9:30 so I called it a win.  We are dabbling in some light History and Science this year and, of course, they have easily won the children over and are becoming favorites right alongside Bible.
The history and science curriculums Mike and I chose are Biblically based and I was tickled that at 11:30 we'd basically been in the Word for almost 2 hours (with breaks, of course - after all my scholars are 4 and 5)!

Alright - the back to school traditional pics...Xavier with his books & TMNT art box.  Except the math book is too too easy so we aren't going to use it.  Instead we're going back to the good 'old Rod and Staff books for him for "math".  He is so excited to have "reading" and "math."

Natalee with her new Hello Kitty art box and her books...

Natalee's holding History, Bible is between them, Xavier is holding Science...

Selfies with their "teacher." (smile)

A dorky teacher selfie because I got up, got dressed in real clothes (no sweat shorts!) and did a 5 min something to my hair and face.  It's real.  Even if I don't know where to look on my phone when taking a selfie (sigh)

We also bought the sweets bigger {clearance} back packs to carry their Bibles and writing stuff in to church.  The ones they had were toddler size and their Bibles didn't fit well in them.

Okay, enough posing...
Digging in...

In Bible we'll continue studying about Moses, picking up where we left off.  We are also memorizing the 10 Commandments.

Science will be a 12 week study on the awesome body God designed for us.  For day 1, a self portrait of ourselves.  (Xavier and I had a long discussion about him being blue in his portrait - I decided to let it go.)

In History we're starting at the beginning, of course.  Here, the children are working on Creation books,
which they finished today...

Xavier will be going more in depth with each individual letter, taking one a week, as well as his numbers and working on 1 to 1 correspondence.

Natalee is becoming quite a wonderful reader and likes to read to her smallest and most captive audience...

Math is still probably her least favorite, even though I *try* not to let my feelings about it (ahem) rub off on her.  She does it very well and has maintained most of what she learned last year over the summer.

I was anxious to see if Day 2 brought as much excitement but up they popped, eager to jump in to our lessons.  (yay!)
 something about his little hands...

What did Minnie Mouse do while we were learnin'?  She hung out on my back, napped, played in her jumper, knawed ice to soothe her aching gums, and tried to get into anything we left out that we shouldn't have.

We call this a successful back to (home)school in our books.  Whether you are going public, private, or home school we hope this school year is fantastic for you and your kiddos!
