January School Days {Jan 13th-20th}

January is marching on in a snowy blustery mess and we're getting as much school under our belts as we can so that when the sun comes out again we can be outside in it.
Mia is recognizing patterns in numbers, learning to count by 10s, and write her numbers to 100.  The first day I challenged her to go to 100, she was very grumpy about it.  However, the next day it took half the time, and she was so pleased with herself!  She is also learning to put two groups of numbers together and add.  Kindergarten is so much about practice and just making sense of the world around you.  For Ameliya, it's also about putting a label to some of the things she already knows how to do.
Zayden is marching right through preschool this year.  He's learning before, after, under, over, between, and practicing writing his letters and numbers.  He also cuts and glues everyday, which is his favorite.
I ordered some half price Plus Plus blocks from Amazon for during read aloud time.  Zayden, Mia, and Xavier really enjoying playing with them.
{I'll be so sad when his cheeks lose their baby fat.}
After doing his workbook one day last week, Zayden looked at me and declared, "RECESS!"
They are loving the snow play when it's not too frigid to get outside.
The second day of writing to 100!!
Mia is also ready to read!  We are blending words together and learning how to manipulate sounds.
My kitchen helper and I treating everyone to flourless, low(er) sugar monster cookie bars.

We took advantage of the fresh powdery snow and made snow ice cream together on Friday.  Everyone enjoyed the treat!

We officially have a young man, old enough to handle the load of helping his dad shovel the walks.  We are thankful for this growing boy.

Today we went to a program at the conservation department about "Super Hero Animals."  Miss Laura taught the kids about the things wild animals do to survive, and then had activities and games for them to do to see how their super hero strengths matched the animals.
It was nice to get out of the house - the cold weather has kept us too cooped up the last several days.
And thus has begun another week of learning...
