Community Helper Wrap-Up

Several of us in the homeschool co-op ended up doing Community Helper unit studies near the same time so we decided to meet yesterday and wrap up the unit together.  The other children have spent some significant time together in the past so my children were kind of the newbies on the block, but they were welcomed with open arms and made many new friends by the end of our couple of hours.

One mother organized a craft activity, another organized games, one did a hands on snack, and I brought books to read while the children ate.  It was a really fun time!

They started with a circle time to tell what helper they were dressed up as:
Xavier went as a fire fighter and Natalee chose to be a construction worker.

Then they made more community helper figures for their packets.  We LOVE making these!  My children get these figures out almost daily to play with during their free time.
Natalee made a chef and a farmer...both got accented with the sparkly glitter glue!
Xavier made a teacher and a nurse/doctor.  He was very adamant about the eyebrows.

While those were drying they played a group game.  They rolled the die and the number they got was the number of marshmallow teeth they got to put in their mouth.  The die had a black out on it that was a cavity.  The first one with a full mouth won.  Congrats to H for winning!

Snack was "build a town" snack.  Each child was given large and small marshmallows and pretzels and got to build a community building in town.  They loved this!

My little tag along, who is such a cheery, go with the flow, girlie!

This was a fun afternoon and I'm glad my kids got to participate!
