Six Months Old {Evalynn Nancy}

Our beautiful girl is half a year old.
Evalynn is beloved by the whole family.  The older four dote on her and look out for her every want and need.  She takes it personally when someone walks through the room she's in and doesn't stop to talk, kiss, hug, or entertain her.  She loves her people and thinks we are all here for her entertainment.
Evie has mastered the art of crawling.  She sets her eyes where she wants to be and she gets there.  Everyday she is faster than the day before.
If I leave the room for long it's a fun game of where's the baby when I come back in.
We've been working on training all the kids to keep the floors baby proof - no Legos in here!
Evalynn loves water. She's had a lot of soap less baths this week while she's fighting a cold.  Water makes her happy.
Her first cold - sigh.  We made it almost six months.  So much holding, rocking, and loving this week.  So much snot sucking.
{Safety alert - it's all wrong, I know - on her side, not buckled in, with a blanket...I promise she was a foot in front of me and I was watching her while I read to the big kids.  My body needed a break.}
Evalynn loves foods in her Boon pulper, especially berries.  Blueberries are her favorite, although she really liked the prune mash I froze for her.
While I school, Evie usually jumps, plays, crawls around, and sometimes bosses.

We're six months in and the kids still fight about who gets to hold her, love her, help her.  Never doubt that you are loved, princess.

It's a Good Thing She's Cute {wink}

Oh Evalynn....
Growing and teething and learning new things every.single.day.
It's been a hard week, darling.  You've been discontent and grumpy but then you sprinkle in a smile and laugh and we forget about all the sleepless nights.  Almost.  Sleepless indeed.
We've done a lot of water time {baths without soap} because you are happy there in the water.  Big tub, tummy tub, anything will do.  You aren't choosy.
Even your hair is growing this week.
We're doing a lot of not sleeping with just enough sleeping in the midst to keep us from going crazy.
You tend to fall asleep for a decent two hours.....at about 7 a.m. when Mama has to get up.
Oh honey, we love ya, but it's a lot easier when we sleep at night.
You do love the new food strainer Mama got you.  You'll try anything I put in it, but you seem to like cold blueberries the best.  The cold feels good on your swollen gums, I'm sure.

Don't be in such a hurry to grow up, Evalynn.  Let yourself take breaks and rest.  Little girls grow best when they sleep.

Gorgeous Girls

Lauren sent me this picture and it just needs it's own post.
Cousin Emma with baby Evie...our two "E" girls.
Big cousins are just the sweetest.

A Beautiful Weekend

I started out dreading this weekend because Mike was slated to work both Saturday and Sunday.  However, the sun warmed us up both days and helped it round out to just the break we needed.
Mike put in a full day Saturday and the kids and I started our day out hot with our chore list.  We scrubbed the bathroom, bedrooms, dusted, vacuumed, mopped, did laundry, and got everything back in order for a new week.  That felt good!  The kids played after lunch and I wrestled with a grumpy Evalynn,
and then we went and spent an hour and a half at the library.
We love our new library.  It's the size of a full city block and three stories tall.  We feel very welcome there, and there are activities to do that invite you to come and stay awhile.  It also has really great hours.  After we returned our old books and chose new ones, we went to the kids area and played puppets, games, and cozied up and read.  I spread Ev's blanket out so she could stretch while I played games with Mia and Zayden.  We also had to confess that last week someone {who is recently more mobile than we realized} got into the library bag and tore a book and we needed to make that right.  Someone cute, but probably ornery.  Someone bald and innocent looking.
I taught Zayden to play Connect 4.
After we got home from the library, it was time for a whole lotta lotta outdoor play.  I told the kids they had to have on long sleeves, boots, and hats.  Mia interpreted that differently than most.  She went for shorts.  Ha.  She came in covered from head to toe in mud.  She's such a delight.
After the kids played for a couple hours, we went on a long walk so fussy Evie could relax.  She loves stroller walks.  She fell asleep and Xavier helped me carry the stroller into the house so she could finish her nap without being interrupted.

Today {Sunday} Grandma and Papa came to see us!  I was very homesick on Friday, having not logistically been able to make a trip down to see Colby's basketball senior night work, and a visit from them helped a lot.
Grandma and Papa are cleaning their basement and brought us their foosball table.  All the kids were excited, but especially Xavier.  I see lots of foosball tournaments in our future!
It's going to the basement as soon as daddy gets a couple buddies to help him wrestle it down the stairs.
Evie teases Papa with her affection.  She smiled at him a lot from afar and tried to be brave with his deep voice.  Finally towards the end of the visit she got more comfortable.  She tends to play cat and mouse with him - always grins from a distance and then gets a long lip up close.  Turkey.
We ended a sunny Sunday with some catch in the yard.
And Evie ended it with sweet potatoes mixed with quinoa and mom's milk.  She loves food.
We are thankful for this break from winter before cold temps hit us again this week and almost feel ready for another week ahead.
