Fourth Day of Vacation {Louisville Slugger} Aug. 8th

Our original plan for vacation was to do the Ark/Creation museums and then spend the latter part of our week at Mammoth Cave National Park exploring and hiking.  However, the sprained ankle crimped those plans and Mike and I had to decide what to do instead.  Just head home after the Ark/Creation seemed a little lackluster, given we'd planned 5-6 days for travel.  In the end, we decided to head to Louisville for 2 days and 1 night and spend some time being tourists there.

Louisville was a vibe.  There was so much to see, even just driving around.  We got up and ate everything in the freezer for breakfast (breakfast sandwiches and ice cream).  Mom did hair while Dad packed up the van and we checked out of our VRBO mid morning.
Off to Louisville!!
We try to do at least one "mom and pop" non chain, local restaurant with the kids when we travel and I picked one in Louisville that had good reviews.
It can be unnerving to help five kids find something on a new menu that will suit them but we did it and everyone was satisfied with their food.  In fact, we had more on the table than we could get through.  Neither Mike nor I could finish our sandwich/wrap or chips, and Evie had food to share (per usual).  Everything was delicious.

From lunch we headed to the Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum.  The boys were especially excited about us deciding to do this stop.
Our factory tour guide went very quickly, so I missed a lot of what he said.  We held a lot of bats, and it was cool to see how they are made.
Bats made to different players' specifications.
The factory was humid to keep the wood from drying out.  Bless.
We all got souvenir bats at the end of the tour.
After the factory tour we explored the museum at our leisure.  There were lots of photo ops, lots of things to learn and read, and - quite exciting - you could hold actual bats from ball players.
Am I ever so glad I labeled these photos...
{only held this bat because it was pink}
Mike took the kids into the bat vault, and we chose ornaments at the gift shop.
Of course we had to go out front for pictures with the big bat.
It is pretty impressive.
The boys hit the batting cages but the girls opted out so we just hung out and waited.

I think we were at Louisville Slugger for about four hours.  When we left we headed to our hotel.  It seemed to me that Mia was getting the cold that Mike had the day before so we decided to make it an easy evening.  We let the kids swim, ate a light supper, and played games in our suite.
Ev was irritated having her floatie on but she couldn't touch in much of the pool and Mike nor I wanted to get in.  Natalee and Xavier took turns each giving her 5 minutes without her floatie so she could dive for toys and then we had her put it back on.
I ended up taking Mia to the room to shower and go to bed early while Mike let the others swim themselves to bedtime, which they greatly enjoyed.  The sweet part about having kids get older is that they trickled up one by one to shower, which we could trust them to do without us being right beside them.
