Zayden Sam Turns {FIVE}

Zayden Sam is "one whole hand" old!
This guy actually got to start the birthday celebration a day early.  He wanted a church suit, so Dad and I got him one and let him open it early so he could wear it to worship.
Is he not adorable?

Sunday night, Theo called and Zayden opened the gift Theo had chosen for him.  A set of 5 Batmans - that I didn't get a picture of because they used my phone to talk and play.  Ha.  Tech problems.
If you ever want to test your ADHD, FaceTime with a pair of 4 year olds.  I love that they can play over technology, although it will never replace hugs and loud, raucous, running play.

After the kids were in bed Sunday, I got the breakfast table ready.  Zayden chose monster truck plates and napkins.

Zayden woke up excited to start his birthday. Daddy took PTO to spend the day with us so everything felt very special!

The birthday boy wanted doughnuts for breakfast so I bought them yesterday and then fried up some bacon and gave everyone big glasses of milk to try to protein load the sugar.
(We added the dye free sprinkles, courtesy of Aldi!)
Everybody loves special breakfasts around here! No oatmeal on birthdays (except Evie had oatmeal with only a few bites of a doughnut, because I'm still me).
Everyone said what they loved about Zayden before we sang.
After breakfast, Granny and Papa FaceTimed to wish the birthday boy a happy day, and he opened the gift they sent.
Then, he opened his gifts from the kids, Daddy, and Mommy.
Natalee drew him a Cars picture.
Mia and Zayden pooled their money and got a Lego set.
(Everyone loves taking photos and videos - that's what they are using the devices for.)
A basket to hook on his top bunk so he can keep his water, a book, a couple toys close-by in bed!

Daddy and I got him the new micro machines super city van and a set of small die cast Cars to go with it.  While Daddy was putting on the stickers, they kids worked on the Lego set.
Yesterday Zayden said he sure wished he could go bowling for his birthday but he knew we couldn't because of the covid (meaning, the alley is open but we aren't quite comfortable with crowded places yet so he knew we'd say no).  Unless.....maybe we could go.....if the campus owns the bowling alley....and your daddy takes good care of the manager's IT needs.....and it's not open to the public on a Monday morning.....but Daddy makes arrangements to surprise his birthday boy.  A bowling alley to ourselves - so thankful for the kindness of people!
We all had a good time and it didn't take an entire can of puffs to keep Evie happy while we bowled.
Bowled his last frame without the ramp.

After we bowled a game, we came home to have hot dogs for lunch (birthday boy picks the menu).
I conceded to a second doughnut for dessert and Zayden said, "aren't you going to sing to me?"
Of course we are...

After lunch brought a whirlwind of packages from extended family, FaceTime calls, Marco Polo and Facebook well wishes, and playing with new things.  So much joy and such a loved five year old.
Shayna put some sweat into a Super Wings Jett shirt for him.  He loves it!
His fire truck from Uncle Pat and Aunt Joanna zoomed away before I got a picture!
-got food on the shirt at lunch - mom had to wash it up real quick-
Z and Mia, and then Zayden and Daddy, got the Harry Potter Legos put together.
FaceTime with Papa Curtis and Grandma Num before supper!  He opened his gifts from them - Super Wings.  Specifically Bello and Grand Albert!
FaceTime from the Paredes crew after a supper of tacos!
We caught up with the girls and he opened his gifts that they sent, too.  I couldn't take pictures b/c they were using my phone to talk (ha), but he took the around the world toob set they sent, and then let his super wings fly to each place to visit them.  Imagination at it's finest.
We opted out of dessert after supper.  He wanted ice cream, but honestly no one was hungry and we were all sugared out after a couple doughnuts, so Zayden chose to save the ice cream for tomorrow.

After more playing, and a FaceTime with his buddy, Theo, who called to check in on how the day was, Zayden chose a family game for us to end the night.
Super Wings close, new sequin flip pillow, all snuggled up and ready for bed as a five year old!

We love you, you Super Sam!  You feel big, you love hard, and you put others first.  You think of your friends, and you are a wonderful student.  Happiest of birthdays, handsome, wild, sweet son.
