School Marches On

I'm so behind on blogging but we really are learning over here at the Joyful Jamboree!  Our days are full, and my nights have been busy with some part time work.  Couple those things with the fact that my computer wants to die, and, well, it sucks the joy out of blogging.  Ha.  But here goes...we're doing it - we're learning and loving it!
The big kids completed a science unit and lapbook on nocturnal animals.  This was a very fun unit to work through, and was full of information!  Here they are collecting things to make owl nests for their books!  (trash day! ignore the trash cans!)

A little math work using Monopoly Jr during game night!

Phonics and language skills for Xavier!

Math time for Natalee...
 And free time!

Natalee had a craft morning with a friend...Mia got in on the action, too.
And then we had little friends over for an evening while their folks caught a night out...

Our friends joined the homeschool karate class and Xavier is very excited about it!  More boys = more fun!

Sweet boy!

Mike works a late shift 1-2 evenings a week.  I'm finding that I get supper earlier, the kids get PJs on earlier, and then well all settle down with books.  I miss Mike but I love these evenings!

Zayden watches approximately 30 seconds of TV at a time...this pic was too cute not to keep, though.  In the rocking chair, lovey in hand.

Xavier earned his 4th honor stripe on 12/14/16.

After nocturnal animals, our next science unit was cheetahs!  The kids chose this topic and had a lot of fun with it!  We finished it up today.
In these photos they are using their resources to look up some information.

And so...school {life} marches on.  We love it, it keeps us on our toes, and we feel blessed to get to do it together and at home.
Xavier is becoming quite a proficient reader.  He decodes well, sometimes goes too quickly, but loves to read.  The last 2 weeks' lessons were over i__e and vowel teams, and he's done amazingly well with those concepts and applying them both to his reading and writing skills.
In math, he has started subtraction and is excited about that.  He likes to figure his problems in his head if he can, and is getting quite speedy!
Natalee just finished a unit on perimeter in math and got to use a ruler for it's intended purpose for the first time.  She has worked through coin values and adding up money, 3 column adding with carrying, and more.  I'm very pleased with how much easier math overall is coming to her.  She loves reading and spelling best and continues her Rod & Staff curriculum in both.
Ameliya refuses to be left behind.  Ever.  She enjoys doing whatever we have time for and thinks she should be at the table or on the floor with her "school books" the entire time the big kids are.
Zayden keeps us busy.  His antics will need their own separate post!
I hope wherever and however your children are learning that they are having as much fun as we are!
