Safe!

About a month ago I blogged about making these car seat ponchos for our two youngest kiddos.  We love them, and they are working quite well at their intended purposes of keeping our children warm and safe.
Here are some action shots, just to show how they are being used:
Age 2 1/2, wearing size 4 clothes, riding in a Graco Size4Me 65, forward facing
If Ameliya gets hot or we are going on a longer trip, she just pops hers off over her head and she's ready to relax!
This skunk can actually get his off, too.  Super strong Sam...
 Age 1, size 18-24 month clothes, riding in a Graco Size4Me 65, rear-facing
When we load the children we stand them in the van, pull the back of the poncho up and drape it on their head and quickly settle them in their seat (so they don't get a huge draft up the back!  brr!).  We then drape the back of the poncho up and over the back of the seat, and fasten their belts against their clothes underneath.  I can fasten both car seats without looking (I just take a peek when I'm done to make sure slack is right and the chest clip is in the right spot), but you can pull the poncho up or to the side if you need to see to get arms in and buckles fastened.  Easy peasy...or easy enough to get used to it.  If it's very cold out, we carry both little ones to the car, and wrap and hold their poncho around them like a blanket so they don't get a draft under it walking to/from the van.  However, if they didn't have these, I'd be carrying them to the car wrapped in a blanket wearing a thin jacket suitable for the car seat, so I'm still saving myself from dealing with one less item.
Both babies get lots of compliments on their ponchos/capes, when we are out and about!
