Mike and I hosted a homeschool co-op art class this last Saturday. We chose Van Gogh to study and after reading a biography with the children and talking about Van Gogh's life and style of painting we set to work creating our own Starry Night paintings.
We thickened our paint with glue and showed the children how to make their skies swirl. We only had 4 students this time, ages 4-8, but we had so much fun listening to their individual ideas and thoughts as they painted.
After the Starry Nights were completed we did swirly landscape paintings. This idea came from my new Usborne Art Treasury book (LOVE it!). The kids enjoyed having a bit more freedom for their paintings but did a great job focusing on making landscapes.
We had a fun morning and the kids really enjoyed getting to paint for a solid hour!!
