Wisconsin + Great Lakes Vacation {Day 5 - Tuesday, August 5th} Rest Day

When we planned vacation and asked the kids what they wanted to do a couple of them expressed that they desired a day at the rental house where we didn't have much planned.  After a couple days exploring the Upper Peninsula, we were ready for a day of rest from driving and adventuring so Day 5 was a rest and reset day.

This leads to the question - why did we stay in Wisconsin (Peshtigo to be exact) when our desire was to be at the great lakes, mostly in the Upper Peninsula?  Well....we planned late and planned poorly.  We were late getting a rental, there weren't many options, what we did find were very pricey because we were so late booking, and I was overwhelmed by it all.  So when we found the country house we rented we just jumped and then put the other pieces in order afterwards.
Was it the best?  I mean the house was lovely.  The town was sleepy and it was quiet.
Did I have a minor meltdown Saturday night after the kids were in bed when I actually realized that the 3 days of Great Lake adventuring we wanted to do were 2-3 hour drives?  Absolutely.
Did Mike prove the hero with his cool and collected "no big deal" demeanor which is both something that drives me crazy sometimes and something I adore about him other times?  Again, absolutely.
So....we just did it.  We packed up the van 3 different days and drove.  The bummer was that the days were just long.  We left early, got home late, and were tired.  The beauty is that we did it.  The roads were clear, the drives were gorgeous, the kids were excellent travelers, and the Lord gave us safety.

The drive up Green Bay each morning wasn't too shabby...
{from Aug 4th}

Our big days of driving made the rest day so much sweeter.  We slept in (mom slept the longest), played games, and did a little local shopping.
