{Art Work}

More art work from the children....

 Xavier's motorcycles are getting more detailed. :)

 Daddy drew Xavier a car at his request.

 This one and the one below are both pictures of Natalee and Mommy.  Notice how Mommy has gotten bigger in the bottom pic.  ;)

 Drawing trees is a new love of Natalee's...

 A race car daddy drew for Natalee - she put #95 on it for Lightening McQueen!

 Natalee was playing "teacher" and drew this check list of things for her students to do!

Another Sunday in Paradise

My, am I enjoying our study through Philippians at church right now!  It's refreshing, encouraging, and seems to fit into our current season of life.

This morning Xavier asked me to wear a dress and he'd wear a tie and "I'll be your prince, Mom."  Be still my heart, sweetie pie.
He makes a pretty dapper prince, if I do say so myself.

After assessing the situation, Natalee quickly went to her daddy and asked him to be her prince for the morning.  She sure is looking grown up lately.

A bonus shot of me and my mini me...
poor thing can't deny who she belongs to, can she?

After several days in a row of 60* weather, we got another 3" of snow last night.  It's hard not to lament and to find our joy.  I find mine here - in these faces - in the life growing inside me - and in the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.  So grateful for what we've been entrusted with here on this earth.

A Day of Pampering {Almost 38 Weeks With #3}

My sisters are grand!  Part of the reason I wanted more children is because I want my girls to have sisters and my boys to have brothers.  There is nothing quite like the same gendered bond that just warms my heart (even though N and X are BEST friends!).

Today my sisters treated me to a pedicure and lunch of my choice.  Besides those two treats, just a 1/2 day with the three of us was a delight in itself.  Conversation, laughs, catching up...it's what family is all about.
They also made unnecessary and adorable baby crafts when we got home.  Pictures when baby gets here.

My hubby held down the fort with these two cuties while I was gone.  It's nice to be the one "coming home" every once in awhile...they seem to miss me and are so excited to see me.

Can't wait to see if my 3rd sweetie grows into a blond haired, blue eyed darling like big brother and sister.

Almost 38 weeks and feeling well!  I got the van vacuumed out with the warmer weather, put the car seat in and have tackled packing my suitcase.  Yesterday, I cleaned like a mad woman after another random round of sickness (vomit/diarrhea) from Natalee and was SURE that all that "nesting" would put me into labor (even if it was a little forced) but no such luck.  Still chugging!  When I'm on my feet the Braxton Hicks contractions are regular and stronger but they stop when I rest.  At least my body is making preparations!

We'll try to be patient #3, but really...we're ready when you are!

Closer to Baby {#3}

We're getting closer to being ready for Baby #3!

The co-sleeper and swing came in the mail and the children and I assembled them.  Xavier is actually pretty manly and can be quite a bit of help for a small fry!  He was so proud to be doing "big brother" things for the baby!

(Mike still has to attach it to the bed...but I keep shoving it away.  Let's face it - right now I'm getting up 3x+ a night to potty...hopefully once baby comes I won't need OUT of bed that many times!)

The base for the car seat is in the car, baby's suitcase is packed, my suitcase is...eh "almost" there (but my toiletry bag is ready - b/c who would want to use hospital shampoo after giving birth!??).  The children's overnight bag is packed and they are prepped for what is happening and for spending a couple nights at Gma Num's and Papa's (though excited, Xavier didn't realize he wouldn't get to go with to the delivery and watch the baby "come out"...that boy!).  I even have little gifts ready to give them at the hospital.

I'd still love to find a warm enough day to vacuum out the van, and, of course there will always be last minute things that need doing but it feels good to know that baby and I will have a place to rest our heads when we get home.  What else do you really need? ;)

Updated on 3/14/14 to add a picture of this cuteness...my friend/cousin Breanna from {the baby keeper} custom made a "to my wishes" rainbow cocoon that is footless with a drawstring for easy diaper changes.  She offered to add raindrops to it but big sis, Natalee, gave a firm veto.  Rain does make Natalee kind of sad feeling so I wasn't altogether surprised.  Come on baby - finish baking!  We're ready!!

Role Models {a study of Philippians 2:12-18}

Since I fired the old blog back up I've stayed pretty light and airy.  I still have lots of "deep" thoughts but haven't put "pen to paper" and gotten them out.  Today's sermon, however, is making it impossible for me to just "tuck away" my deep thoughts for another time.

Our home church has been without a staff pastor for several months and we've had a couple of long term guest pastors from the local-ish Bible college come up on Sundays and fill in for us.  We've been blessed with their fresh perspectives and we are currently enjoying a study through the book of Philippians with Cody, our long term guest preacher.

We've studied through the first chapter & the beginning of the second chapter of Philippians over the last 2-3 weeks and today's message was referencing the scripture of Philippians 2:12-18.
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”[a] Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

Oh this scripture!  I've studied through Philippians before - in a group setting and alone - but never have I had this portion of scripture presented in such a way that literally brought tears (perhaps a bit hormonal but still) to my eyes.

Cody began by asking the congregation to name people who were role models to us in the church.  Names floated around (that might not mean much to some of my blog readers) like Payton Smyser, Lois Harris, Robert & Maureen Watkins, and Betty Beeler (Betty being Mike's grandma).  When asked why these people were role models reasons were given like, "they love God and they love people, they lift helping hands, they find positive to say about others instead of negative, etc."  I was inspired.  I agreed.  I loved this time of Q&A.

We delved into scripture and Cody focused in on this portion of verse 12 and verse 13, "continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."  He pointed out to us that salvation isn't a one time deal - it's a continual act.  Duh...I knew that...didn't I?  Sigh.  Thanks, pastor.

We continued and Cody spoke to the children as well as us "grown ups" (wait, when did I become part of the grown up crowd??) regarding verse 14.  Today and likely forever-more it will become a key verse in the Beeler household.  The children are at "sponge" ages where it is quite easy for them to soak up and memorize new verses and information and I can't think of a better verse than Philippians 2:14 "Do everything without grumbling or arguing..."  We'll memorize verse 15 soon so they have a reason for this command but for now verse 14 brings a lot home to us.  We've seen an increase in "awwws," and "buuuuts," and even some "I don't want to's" when we've asked the children to do something or when it's time to leave a fun place.  I've struggled, though I've been firm, with not wanting to just explode over my complaining little people.  However, I realize sometimes I don't always show an attitude of joy over my tasks either.  Touche, my friends.  Though no excuse for disobedient whining, my children need led by my example.  Sure thing.  Thanks, pastor.

As we continued through to verse 18 we talked about living lives of joy - being Jesus' light in this world and shining it to all we meet.  I've heard this before...I'm on board...I'm riding the train...
and then God used Cody to speak to my heart as a parent....
And he said {paraphrasing}, "no, not just for the people 'out there' {pointing to the doors} but for this child and that child and those children I see over there..." and he starts pointing to the children sitting in the congregation.  I was struck.  Of course I know my children and their upbringing is the responsibility of their dad and I but never in my 5 years as "mom" had anyone ever said it quite like that.
And then Cody said {tears are rolling down my face again as I type}, "in 20 or more years, when your children are in your seat in the pew, and the preacher says, 'name someone who has been a mentor and inspired you' whose name do you want them to call out?"
{Sniffle, sniffle}.  Mine of course.  I want them to say all those things about me.  "My mom - was/is a light.  She never has bad to say about others.  She lifts helping hands.  She loves God and turns that love into loving His people."  Gee, thanks pastor.

So, friends...whether you work away from home or you stay at home - here is your inspiration and your challenge to put Christ first and let His light shine.  Not only for the people "out there" but for the little ones right in front of our faces.  A beginning of the school year question proved to Mike and I that our children (with no prompting) want to be just like us.  That both honors us and humbles us to the very core.  Who/what do we want them to be like?
{I changed the spelling of kindergarten on her paper after I took this picture - call it an overwhelmed mommy/daycare lady brain moment.}

When we act impatient, they learn impatience.  When we ignore the needs of others, they learn to be blinded.
Likewise, when we love God and love His people, they learn to love His people.  When we turn negative comments into positive ones, they learn to find the good in others.  When we lift helping hands, they learn to be the hands and feet of Christ for others.  {Ephesians 2:10:  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.} What else can we give them?  If I taught them no reading, writing or math, but taught them these things I'd consider my job well done.

As I prayed at closing for Christ to show me the way to live this type of life, he saw it fitting to send Natalee into a gripe or a fit every time we asked her to do something for the rest of the day.  Thanks, Jesus.  As we meditated with her on Philippians 2:14 and as I strove to keep a firm but calm and loving tone I thanked Him for the opportunities to mold her.  Tonight when I kissed her goodnight and spoke with her about how daddy and I were disappointed with her disrespect today, she got tears in her eyes and apologized - from the heart - and told me tomorrow she'd try harder.  I forgave her and then I assured her I'd be right there - lifting her up, cheering her on, helping her win, and reminding her about Jesus' words.  And then I asked her to help me, too.  After all, just because it sounds good doesn't make it easy...

Ecc 4:9:  "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow."

James 5:19-20:  "My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins."

Here's to you, weary mommies and daddies...may you find your source of strength and may it stem from Jesus to the point that He overflows over you and your children.  My prayer for our home, and yours, so that we might find our joy to be in Him...

36 Weeks {#3}

I must look tired - people keep asking how I'm feeling.  Seriously, it's asked in love and I appreciate their kindness.  I *am* tired but blessed.  Baby is active.  VERY active.  Exhaustingly so.  Never still.  I don't remember the others moving this much.  Every day I'm reminded that my love language is NOT physical touch because every day there is a little life dancing and moving around and touching me all.day.long.  Go figure.

An angel at church today told me I look lower.  Bless her.  That gives this tired mommy hope.  Someday soon pregnancy will be a memory and it will not have all been in vain.

This little fruit/veggie comparison has been fun to watch for the last several weeks.  This week the baby is the size of a head of romaine lettuce.  Yum - I love lettuce!  He/She should be weighing in at quite a bit more than that head of lettuce, however - more like 5-6 pounds and 18+" according to the link.  {I'm feeling it...trust me.}

We got hit with yet another winter storm last night.  I think this pregnancy wouldn't have felt quite so long if winter wasn't determined to go on for.ev.er.  The inability to get outside and walk, play, and mess around in the dirt has really affected me and I'm doing my best to keep a positive spirit.
The good news is we live in Missouri - at some point spring HAS to come.  It's like a law or something, right?

Mike gave me the green flag to order the 2 baby items I decided I really wanted with this baby.  A co-sleeper and a swing/bouncy combo.  We have always kept baby next to us in the cradle but it still meant getting UP in the middle of the night.  I'm anxious to have the co-sleeper and be a little lazier this time round - with baby in his/her own safe space but near to me with easy, middle of the night access.
We sold our swings/bouncers from the first 2 kids when Xavier outgrew them, and with space always being an issue I decided the combo I came across was a pretty ideal winner.  Unable to find one used we went ahead and ordered and I'm anxious to get it.  Even though babies aren't about "stuff" it is nice to have a little new with this one.  The crib from Xavier is still stored (we had 2 cribs b/c Natalee & Xavier were so close in age but did sell one after they both outgrew them) but we're hoping to get by with the co-sleeper until we leave this house.  Otherwise, we may have to get rid of the dining room table to find space for it! ;)  (kidding...kind of...without daycare I can downsize some things if I have to!)

I'm also super excited to use my new wrap that my in-laws got me for Christmas, and I still have the ring sling a friend gifted me after Natalee arrived.  Overall - we're set.  I think.  Today Mike's going to dig out the suitcase for me so I can start packing for him & me {baby is packed & ready!}.  And then there is the issue of the other 2 children and whether we need to pack for them for when we go to the hospital or whether to just let the family taking care of them flounder about and figure it out....okay, maybe we're not quite ready....

35 Weeks With #3

35 weeks....

I fluctuate between "I'm ready" and "we're really not ready."  We have no bed plan - I'd like a side car/co-sleeper but haven't ordered one yet - we also don't have out the bassinet or cradle, which are our other options.  Baby's hospital bag is packed, but mine's not started.  Clothes are in the dresser and diapers are ready.  I have zero freezer meals prepared, which is not good planning when your husband can't help with meals in the evening because of his commute.  Sigh.

The good news is our love is ready and my body is getting there.

I'm dealing with some swelling that started this last week in my feet and ankles.  I had this trouble with Natalee but not Xavier.  I guess every pregnancy really is different.

In the midst of all this, we're trying to prep the house to show and sell and pray that it sells readily so we can get moved.  Moving with a newborn, 3 year old, and 5 year old....the overwhelming feeling is starting to crush in around me.  Pray for us, would you?

 A stoplight for daddy

 A robot

She's really into making hearts right now so I made her a large homemade stencil out of a piece of cardboard.  It gets a lot of use!

Garden of Eden {an Xavier Funny}

In our Bible curriculum we are learning about Creation and the fall of man into sin.  One of our daily review questions is "where did Adam and Eve live and what were the 2 trees called?"

Today, Xavier couldn't recall the trees names and candidly answered, "da one dey tould eat and da one dey touldn't!"

Little minds never fail to amaze me!
