The First Snow of 2022

The first snow is magical, isn't it?  It still is, 35+ years into life, and it's a blessing to see it through my children's eyes.  Little noses pressed against the windows.  Loud exclaims when they wake up to a world blanketed in white.  Even the motions of wrestling sweaty little bodies into layers for going out to play carries with it it's own sweetness.  Alternating wrapping a blanket around myself to stand out and watch them play and going back inside to make them warm drinks and a treat to eat reminds me to be thankful to be their mother.

The first snow of the 2022 fall/winter season came on November 15th in the early morning.  It was a perfectly lovely heavy wet snow that was still falling as the children woke for the day.  Natalee had early morning therapy, but everyone else rushed outside as soon as breakfast was swallowed, and Natalee followed the instant she got home from OT and PT.
Evalynn was first one ready to go out and her excitement was palpable.  She is at such a fun age, where the world is unfolding before her and there's so many new things to see and learn everyday.  I'll never get over the magic of the preschool years.
Fresh, untrodden snow.
My little orange coated twins were next out.  I got those Land's End winter coats on a very good deal this fall, and Mia was so gracious to get a neutral color so Zayden can wear it again.  It actually tickles me a great deal that they so brightly match....Not twins by definition, but there's only 17 months between them and their friendship is deepening as they age.  There is a steady rhythm to their bond that blesses me to watch.
Next out, Xavier (making a snow angel above), who had to have men's size 11 insulated boots from the farm store this year.  We remembered to be grateful that we could supply this need and that he's a strong healthy boy.  So far he didn't say much about his snow pants, but I suspect they, too, will need replaced soon, and I know he's got larger winter snow gloves on his Christmas list.  He is a good companion to the fun, both serious and joking all rolled into one.
Evalynn's delight as her playmates tumbled out the door to join her was precious.  She is beloved and she knows it.
She's got winter mittens on her Christmas list, too, as she's in need of some that go further up her arm but allow her full use of her hand so she'll stop taking them off.  You'll see in the photo she's on a second pair already from when I got her dressed.
Natalee got home!  Everyday she leaves a bit more of childhood behind and becomes more young woman than little girl, but her excitement over the first snow pleased my heart.  She has always loved snow.  She's always found joy in it's beauty.
The girls worked on a snow man out front (so passersby could see) while the boys pestered them and had a snow ball fight in their work zone.
His head fell off midday when the temperatures warmed up, but I sure am glad they got one up while the snow was right for packing!
And notice Evie....with the second pair of gloves off!
On this random Tuesday morning, when the first snow was fresh, I was thankful to have this tribe under my care.  We were grateful to start with a two hour recess before embarking upon our studies and have the freedom to be flexible.
Remind me to find this much joy in the snow come February, please....
