Weekly Wind Down {Weenie Roast, Food Pics, Beautiful Trees, Crazy Glasses} Oct 2-8

October came in beautifully.
Sunday we went to the church worship hour and then missed classes to head to Missouri for a weenie roast with my family.  Emma was home from college for the weekend so we gathered to visit!
Chief eats chips!
Apples from Uncle Vance's tree.
Dirty faced buddies.
Wild kids!
We headed north mid afternoon so we could get home and get kids in bed for Zayden's big day Monday.

On Monday Zayden had tubes put in his ears and his adenoids taken out.  We were very thankful Grandma Cindy was willing to come up and stay with the other children so that both Mike and I could go along with Zayden (and Grammy Sara had offered, also).  It was a long day but all went smoothly and we are grateful.  Grandma got lots of outdoor time in for the kids' 1000 Hours in a Year log!  Natalee had her first swim practice of the season (pre-season ended in September) and Mike took her while I got everyone else around for bed.  She has moved to the 7-8:30 p.m. practice sessions so that makes for later nights.

Tuesday was pretty routine.  Natalee's therapy was moved to later in the week, so we didn't have to be out early.  I switched breakfast to cinnamon bread that I grabbed at the bakery Monday when I was getting Zayden doughnuts and sausage links for a bit of protein.  Cinnamon bread makes everyone joyful.
Natalee and Xavier have been doing a stretching routine every morning for their PE class.
Their influence has gotten the younger kids inspired!
Tuesday morning game for morning time was Uno Flip!
I tried to get Ev interested in the sensory bin beside me while I played the game with the older kids.
Having finished Birchbark House and Rodzina last week, we started the 2nd book in the Birchbark series and then the first book in Hotel Flamingo.  The hotel series is a light, easy read.  Just something for fun and laughs.  Sometimes, especially if a book if more for entertainment, I just read the first of the series to the kids and then they get hooked enough to read the rest on their own.
Tuesday was just a school and basic day.  Zayden rested at nap time, to continue his recovery.  Supper was yummy beef roast - filling little man's belly with good foods to get out the effects of all the meds he had Monday.  The rest of us benefitted, too!

Wednesday brought another day of rest for Zayden and more of our school routine.
I continued to get up for my walks this week.  The beautiful weather and trees changing color help!
Mike was on 10 hour days this week and had a late day Wednesday.  He took PTO mid morning to go to his great aunt Mary's funeral service and then worked the night shift.  Since I wasn't sure what his day would look like for meals I made scrambled eggs with peppers and cheese and a bit of bacon in them and rolled his and mine into a burrito.  Kids sure didn't mind having eggs for their 2nd breakfast either, as they'd already eaten once before I got the eggs done!
We went through our school routine and had an early supper of breakfast casserole before Awana and Youth Group.
The sprinkles brought us a rainbow.
It was crazy glasses night at Awana and the kids worked hard on their glasses.  Zayden decorated his Harry Potter frames.
Mia used pipe cleaners to put "chains" on her glasses to make "granny glasses."
Ev did not want her frames decorated but wore her lenseless glasses!
And Xavier got in on the fun and made some antennae and decor for his frames.
Sunset light shining on the tree.  Fire.
Sweet friends.
Everyone was a little hungry after Awana so they had a bowl of cereal.  You can see Zayden's recovery was going just fine.

Thursday we were up and churning as best we could.  Stretches for everyone!  (Xavier took breakfast down the street to Daddy so he missed the picture.)
Lately I've found I've been putting Evalynn off a little when she asks to "do school."  Often she asks when I'm helping a big kids, but even then I don't always get back to her and get it out.  I can tell it's making her sad so I'm trying to do better.
We left our messes on the table and headed to hippotherapy.  Instead of school this week the kids took scooters so they could use up some energy while Natalee had her session.
We stopped at the Dollar Tree on the way home and Natalee and Mia went in to get a couple things they both needed.
Listening to Mr. Popper's Penguins on the trampoline.  Still trying to soak in as much outdoor time as possible!
Thursday evening I took Natalee to co-op teen night.  I sat and visited with a couple other moms while she hung out with her friends for a couple hours and I took zero pictures.  It was a nice night - we were both tired when we got home, though!

Natalee had to get back up early for her physical therapy session that had gotten rescheduled and then came right home for a zoom appointment.  She took a rest Friday afternoon after a late night and early morning.
Mike was off Friday since we was scheduled for the night/ten hour shift during the week.
We went to the library in the morning and checked out new books.  We caught a story hour on accident so Mike took the three younger kids while I looked for a book and the big kids read.
The kids did have school to do Friday since they didn't do it Monday but they had worked ahead and bit and it didn't take long.  We had lasagna for supper and then the 4 other kids played in the gym at the Y with Mike while Natalee had her swim practice and I went to the parent meeting.
Saturday was unscheduled and that felt beautiful.  We did chores, Natalee and I ran to the store for a few clothing items, and the kids read and played.  Mike made them supper, and then ordered in for he and I for a date night in.  Evalynn crashed and ate a quarter of my meal.  Ha.
We attempted to watch a movie and finally did watch one but it wasn't great - any recommendations for next time we do date night in?
