Closing Down the School House

We wound down our school year this summer towards the end of May/beginning of June.  Both older children finished their math and reading - Xavier has a bit of his supplementary reading to work through this month.  We did a science unit on weather, which was a ton of fun and I'd like to work through a little more of our history but overall we are "done."
The new school year per MO law began July 1st, so I actually officially have a 3rd grader and 2nd grader (and preschooler!) and they are excited about their new grade assignments.
Here are a few pictures from the end of our school year...

Xavier went and got our 100 First Words Usborne book to write down the different articles of clothes that are worn in each season for his Weather Lapbook.  We encourage the kids to use their resources when they can!
I love this drawing Xavier did with one of his Draw Write Now lessons.  Love the Indian with the bow and arrow!

Yoga = PE minutes!  Thanks Cosmic Kids!

Science!  The water = air, the shaving cream = clouds, and then the kids "rained" colored water onto the clouds to watch it come down into the air.

Keeping Zayden busy while the kids do school is a nearly impossible task.

Look!  He's learning, too! {wink}

Natalee wrote this journal entry in April, but I just now asked her for permission to share it.  I love it and the author.
This is probably the "loosest" year we've ever had when it comes to winding down.  I like things to be neat and tidy and they aren't quite.  The sale of our home, having 2 busy toddler-age kiddos, and just life took a toll on our "neat and tidy."  However, I also did a better job this year of teaching the children instead of worrying about finishing the lessons, and so, I'm trying not to fret.  We got our 1000 hours in (required by MO state law) with 10 days to spare, and we learned so much this year!  2016-17 was a terrific year!
