Scarlette Elyse Battin

Scarlette Elyse Battin, beloved daughter of Micah and Tristan "Brooke" (Tallman) Battin, passed away after blessing her family and friends with 5 amazing years. Scarlette was born December 26, 2016 in St. Louis, MO and passed away April 23, 2022 in St. Louis, MO. Scarlette's fiercest protectors and biggest admirers were her brothers, Eli Anthony 10 and Zander Slayde 6.

Scarlette loved life and everything in it. She lite up any room and was loved by all who met her. She fought hard to make it into this world and fought just as hard to stay here with us. She was driven and always exceeded the goals and overcame any obstacles. Even though Scarlette was taken from us much too soon, she was able to teach us so much in such a short amount of time. She taught us to love with all our heart, to be stronger when we feel weak, to be brave when we are scared, and to achieve more than is expected from us, to play like it is the last day, and to sit back and enjoy the wind in our hair. She always had a smile and it was contagious. Scarlette loved all music, dancing, playing outside, swimming, and swinging.

Scarlette is survived by her parents and brothers of St. Louis, MO. Grandparents, Patrick & Joanna Tallman of Lancaster, MO; Candy & Steve Szymanski of Boring, OR; and Chuck Battin of Oroville, CA. Great-Grandparents, Bryce Tallman of Lancaster, MO: Elaine West of Jefferson City, MO; Jack Compton of Milan, MO; and Bonnie Salazar of Midwest City, OK. Aunts and Uncles, Patricia and Chad Giannetti, Paradise, NV; Shayna Tallman & Jake Groseclose, Lancaster, MO; Makayla Tallman, Columbia, MO; Crystal and Anthony Parker of Boring, OR; and Nathen and Brittany Szymanski of Portland, OR. Cousins, Liam and Quinn Giannetti; Landyn & Zoey Tallman; and Drake, Torin, and Oliver Parker. Many many Great Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends who were like family, including the staff at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

**************************

Scarlette is the daughter of my closest cousin and dear friend, Brooke. Brooke and I are just 6 months apart in age and were growing up companions. Since becoming mothers, and especially since the pandemic and schooling situations sent Brooke into the world of homeschooling, our every other week (okay, sometimes more) phone chats have become a safe place to air it all our, troubleshoot our days, and catch up with each other.
It has been my privilege these last 5 years to lead prayer vigils for Scarlette on surgery/procedure days, to rally card and diaper/wipe showers during her hospitalizations and to hear her voice in the background during our calls. Occasionally Scarlette would come to the phone and jabber about all the havoc (wink) that she'd caused in a day that mama had to keep up with. It was my honor to visit Scarlette in the CICU during one of her pre-covid stays (when visitors were allowed) and on a couple of our neuro appt days we would overlap our time with her appts and get a little face to face time.
Scarlette was very prone to what are minor illnesses for us becoming large life events for her, so we tried to be very respectful of her immune system, which means we weren't able to get together nearly as much as Brooke and I might have liked. However, that just meant we had to be more intentional about keeping in touch and loving one another. It was an awe inspiring journey to watch Brooke become an expert in so many fields of Scarlette's care.
Scarlette, you were a warrior. What a light you carried into the world. It's our responsibility to carry that light forward now. You rest, precious one, in a body free from pain, in the arms of Jesus who loves you more than we can even imagine.
Thank you for your impact on our lives and our hearts.
