Week in the Life {Homecoming, Hippotherapy Show Day, School, So Much More!}

Sunday, September 27th

We worshipped from home again, as the last of our colds bid us farewell.

The kids played a bit with their cousins, and then together after worship, and we had a leisurely day at home.   Xavier has decided he's a Yankees fan after reading a series of books written by Derek Jeter, so he watched the entire game Sunday afternoon.
I did get everyone out for a walk before it got too dark, so we could stretch our legs and get some fresh air.
Just a girl carrying her trash box while we go for a walk.
Baths and bed to prepare for another week ahead.

Monday, September 28th
We got up and rolling on school Monday.  Mia had a reading assessment that we worked through.  She's doing very well!
Journal writing is her new favorite thing, especially the Draw Write Now book.  It's a good thing we have the set of 8!  I love to watch her do her illustrations.  She does such a lovely job filling the whole space, especially for a girl her age.
While the older kids were working on their reading and math, Zayden, Mia and I started our Dinosaurs lapbook study.
We learned that dinosaur means "terrible lizard," we introduced reptiles, and we found out which day of creation God created dinosaurs on.
We use this free creation based lapbook for our dinosaur study, as well as the book it recommends (and others, mostly by Answers in Genesis).

Time for teacher mom to pause and snuggle mom to log some time.
Xavier, ever the sports enthusiast, also wanted to watch the Chiefs game.  We don't get the channel it was airing on so we watched it on an app on the iPad.  All of us.  On the tiny screen.  LOL

Tuesday, September 29th
The kids stayed up past bedtime watching the Chiefs game, so they all slept in a bit Tuesday morning.  Except Evie doesn't believe in sleeping in.  She believes in breakfast.
The rest of us started the day with with a game - tea for some of us, too.
Xavier started his school with piano.  He often lets Evie play after he finishes his practicing.
To conclude our study of Japan, we made our own version of gyotaku (fish prints).  We didn't have any fake fish, and didn't feel like getting a real one to print, so we used lizards and turtles instead.
Natalee had PT and worked hard, as always.  She's wearing a new leaf spring brace on her leg on her affected side and seeing a lot of improvement with her pain.  We're thankful to Whitney for the suggestion.
A smoothie pop for the grumpuss.

Wednesday, September 30th
Such a windy day in the Iowa.
Mia added horse poop to her writing drawing - she's a classy girl like that.

Natalee had hippotherapy, and it was "show day" in the arena.  The horses had their hair fixed so nice and they'd planned special sessions for the kids.
They don't just throw Natalee on a horse each week - she's learning to brush, halter, and care for the horse she rides.

Natalee's biggest cheerleaders.  Someday I hope she realizes how fortunate she is to have these supporters.  The kids ate their lunches while they watched since mom was running behind and didn't get them fed before we left.
After a great hippotherapy session we headed back home - and the wind still did blow.

Thursday, October 1st
A new month.
Zayden started learning about place value and tens/ones.  He was excited to finally get out his counters!
A new country!  We're traveling to England!
Natalee had occupational therapy and got to use shaving cream.  Always so fun.
Another day.  Another snuggle.  Miss Ev had a big diaper which resulted in a midday bath, so she was especially snoozy for naptime.
Sigh.  The Beeler car seat curse continues.  (drama, drama, blah, blah, you don't wanna know)....we ordered a new front facing harness booster for either Mia or Zayden and Evie loved sitting in it and trying it out while it was in the house.
Daddy's home!!
The kids had free meal coupons for Taco John's so we gave it a shot.  Probably wouldn't be our first choice but it was a nice treat and mom didn't have to cook.  Lotta bags when the Beelers take in fast food.

Friday, October 2nd
Good morning fun and snuggles with a wonderful big brother.
Friday was the much anticipated first day of private swim lessons for the kids.  We paid for two instructors for the 4 kids and they all very much enjoyed their first lesson.  It's always a joy to Mike and I when our children take instruction from someone else to be told how receptive to instruction they are and what good listeners, too.
Dada went with us to swim, but then went back to work.
After swim everyone was "starving" so we came home for lunch.  Zayden needed a little rest after that.
The kids' cousins came over in the afternoon and they had a great time playing in the sunshine.
Natalee watched Ev for me while I cleaned out the bus.
Pork chops for supper that I'd cooked in the crockpot all day, and then baths, snuggles, and bedtime.

Saturday, October 4th
The kids watched their Saturday morning cartoons while I worked on mount laundry.  I'd bought bakery muffins to treat them and everyone enjoyed one for breakfast.
It was Mike's university's homecoming so we all donned our Statesman gear for the football game.
And it rained, and it rained, and it rained.
I wanted to get a pic of all the kids in their gear - but at this point of taking Ev's the others were still in their PJs and I never did catch them all at once.
babies in blue jeans - the cutest
The rain turned to a mist and we headed out to the game.
We went early to do the covid check ins and not get caught in a line so we could stay away from a crowd.
The college has done a good job of trying to help everyone navigate the pandemic waters - half the seats were closed in the stadium and it was very easy for us to sit alone.  The kids wore mud boots and carried in blankets and stayed pretty warm, I think.
Evalynn was awful in the stands...And I'm pretty patient - Mike being ten-fold so.  She didn't want to wear her coat.  She didn't want to wear her hat.  She didn't like her gloves.  She didn't want to be under a blanket.  She screamed.  And yelled.  Finally I told Mike I'd take her to the van (less the refs have to throw us out) and he didn't even argue.  He just let me.  She was quite cheery sitting in the bus with the heat on and no coat, hat, or gloves and snacks.  Better luck with this one next year.
Daddy bought the others popcorn, though!
The kids all got cowbells - that made the stadium sound festive even though it didn't have many spectators.  The opposing team can't have anyone at all come watch.
When we got home I started load 1 of 3 of wet blankets and damp stuff and churned them all evening.
We did some cocoa and warm showers after supper and curled up for a movie night together.
Watch Evie....Zayden is so patient.  They all are - she's pretty scampy.
Not a bad way to end a windy, wet, but good week - curled up together in warm jammies safe and snug.
